It is important that your car insurance is tailored to your needs and requirements, it is worth looking around at a variety of companies to establish which one will provide you with the specific cover that you require and remain competitively priced.

Third party insurance is the cheapest, because the third party is able to claim compensation. It also means you will be entitled to nothing if it is proven that you were to blame for the incident.
The first party is you, the second party is the insurance company the third party is the remaining person involved.

Third party fire and theft, this means as well as third party if your car is stolen or catches fire you will receive the market value of the car. It is important to realise that this does not cover you for any finance you may have for the car, it will only pay you what the current value of the car is worth.

Fully Comprehensive, this means that even if you are to blame for the incident you will be reimbursed the market value of the vehicle, providing you were driving legally.

GAP = Guaranteed Asset Protection, when buying a new car ask about GAP. This will cover your total purchase price of the vehicle for the duration of the finance or a set period of time.

It is important to realise that some companies assume you will want the extra services they can provide. This will increase the price of the policy they are selling, legal cover, courtesy car, breakdown and recovery service to name but a few. It is also worth noting that some insurance companies will reduce the price of insurance and offer discounts to drivers that have awards for safe driving.
